The Program Manager brings this to life by leading a passionate Instructor/Coaching Team that enriches the climbing experience for the Mesa Rim community.
The How:
As Program Manager, you are an experienced leader and climbing coach. You effectively harness your skills and experience to execute Mesa Rim’s industry-leading Climbing Programs vision and you guide, inspire, and develop your team members to be their best in support of that vision. You are assertive, communicative, and lead in alignment with our Core Values. You utilize sound judgment and critical-thinking skills, and are able to independently problem-solve. As Program Manager, you consistently demonstrate safety, professionalism, and communication standards and expectations and hold these high standards for your team.
The What:
Operational Excellence: The Program Manager is responsible for the quality and management of all Climbing Programs at designated Mesa Rim site; Program Manager executes in accordance with operational standards and ensures operations of all Climbing Programs run smoothly and meet established goals.
- Regularly observe programs to ensure standards are being upheld, collaborating with program supervisors to make improvements when needed
- Assist in the planning and execution of training camps (Pre Regionals/Divisionals/Nationals, Mock Comps, Clinics/Intensives etc.)
- Accountable for upholding all youth protection policies, ensuring that:
- Programs are conducted in accordance with Mesa Rim’s youth protection policies and industry standards;
- Youth coaches are trained on all policies and procedures;
- Any incidents are immediately reported and corrective action is promptly taken
- Collaborate with supervisor to develop and maintain program revenue goals and expense budgets, including labor, labor-related, and equipment costs
- Monitor financial performance of programs, analyzing and reporting on key financial metrics to identify trends and potential areas for improvement
- Serve as point of contact for extenuating circumstances (injuries, discipline, strategic messaging, upset parents) creating company and customer win-wins
- Conduct regular Youth Team membership audits and respond to billing issues as needed
- Manage the scholarship program at your site, including the application and selection process
- Collaborate with Marketing, providing content and ensuring standard program participation levels are maintained and accurately represent Mesa Rim programming
- Oversee program operations, working with supervisor to execute annual and quarterly strategies to ensure programs are aligned with company goals and committed to continuous improvement
- Ensure coaching staff expertise is at the level necessary to achieve goals
- Advise and collaborate with supervisor on high-profile programs, programs involving strategic partnerships, or any program with unusual elements
- In the absence of the Head Coach, coach Team Mesa Rim athletes at applicable local and championship USAC competitions and determine additional coaching resources needed
- Work closely with the site leadership team to foster cross-departmental collaboration, ensuring that all departments are aligned and supporting one another in achieving organizational goals
- Collaborate regularly with other Mesa Rim Program Managers to drive programming changes (site specific and company wide) and enhancements when needed, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
Leadership Excellence: The Program Manager is responsible for communicating the Team Mesa Rim vision and guiding, inspiring, and motivating the efforts of their team in support of that shared vision.
- Manage and develop direct reports through all stages of Employee Lifecycle (recruiting and onboarding/training, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, off-boarding, etc.), following established protocols and adhering to Core Values
- Responsible for Technical development / mentorship of coaching team
- Approve direct reports’ timecards, holding team accountable to established timekeeping and payroll protocols
- Foster team camaraderie and cultivate culture of direct communication
- Maintain coaching presence while delegating to direct reports as needed; dedicate approximately 40% of work time to coaching presence and 60% to administrative functions; maintain on-site presence during events with extenuating circumstances
- Make critical decisions when necessary for the well-being of customers, staff, and the facility, in such areas as safety and emergencies, money handling, and customer experience
- Set examples of professional behavior and excellent customer service at all times
- Serve as a Mesa Rim cultural example, consistently demonstrating and holding others accountable to Mesa Rim Core Values
Must-Haves:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must contribute to Mesa Rim Climbing Center culture
- Must have ability to seek and accept, as well as give, critical feedback in a professional manner
- Must demonstrate a positive attitude and be a team player
- Must have a drive to grow professionally
- Must have at least five years climbing experience
- Must have at least five years coaching experience or equivalent
- Must have at least two years of experience developing climbing programming, experience with youth climbing training, and experience successfully engaging adult and youth climbing community
- Must have previous leadership experience
- Must be USAC Certified Coach or have the ability to acquire certification within 90 days
- Must enjoy working with youth
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and be customer-service oriented
- Must demonstrate an inclusive coaching philosophy that fosters community, builds confidence, and nurtures individual development on and off the walls
- Must be able to communicate with participants, parents, and members of the public on behalf of Mesa Rim
- Must pass criminal and sex offender background check prior to start of work
Nice-to-Haves:
- Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Experience with Rock Gym Pro
- Experience with Google Suite (drive, mail, calendar, etc.)
- Route setting experience
- Experience coaching adaptive climbers
- Knowledge of or attended an AMGA Single Pitch training
- Proficiency in outdoor climbing, sport and traditional protection

SD Program Manager Pay Range: $69,000-$80,000/year
