The How:
As the Recreational Head Coach you are passionate about supporting and inspiring others. You are an experienced leader and climbing coach who is motivated to introduce others to the sport and lifestyle, and does so through creating a space that is supportive, educational, and fun. While you are kind and patient, you are also assertive, communicative, and confidently provide direction to the Coaching Team. You take safety seriously and understand the diligence and attention to detail required to oversee a group of children for extended periods of time. As the Recreational Head Coach, you consistently demonstrate safety, professionalism, and communication standards and expectations and hold these high standards for your team.
The What:
Operational Excellence: The Recreational Head Coach is responsible for executing recreational programs at assigned site ensuring that they run smoothly and meet established goals.
- Lead Programs in accordance with Mesa Rim coaching philosophy and model; supervise practices and classes, ensuring safety protocols are consistently at the forefront for assigned areas of focus, which includes:
- Camps
- Rock Monsters
- Adventure Series
- Homeschool Groups
- Private Events
- Basecamp
- Event coordination
- Coordinating the scheduling of staff (Group Guides) for events, practicing frequent and proactive communication with respective supervisors
- Ensure smooth operations of event check-in collaborating with Front Desk Supervisor as needed
- Ensure smooth operations of assigned programming at site through: Scheduling, communication of marketing needs, RedPoint sign ups and attendance tracking
- Liaise with the Front Desk Team to ensure successful check-in for programs; when applicable, demonstrate advanced knowledge of RedPoint, checking in and ringing up customers
- Collaborating with primary supervisor and the Leadership team to establish, plan, and execute growth initiatives for programming curriculum and coaching procedures
- Stays up to date with local school district trends and proposes updates to offerings as needed
- Maintain on-site presence during at least 75% of programming monthly
- Maintain all equipment and gear; collaborate with supervisor to order supplies and equipment as needed. Ensure staff is trained on proper gear usage procedures.
- Serve as community point of contact for all program-related inquiries (offerings, schedules, pricing, etc.), troubleshooting issues, maintaining adequate staffing, and completing all administrative tasks (payments, tips, etc.); update/revise any operational practices or procedures as necessary
- Possess advanced and detailed knowledge of all Mesa Rim offerings (climbing, yoga, fitness, Pro Shop knowledge, setting, youth programs, etc.) and share this knowledge with Coaches and community
Leadership Excellence: The Recreational Head Coach is responsible for communicating the vision of recreational programs and guiding and motivating the efforts of the team in support of that shared vision.
- Manage and develop direct reports through all stages of Employee Lifecycle (recruiting and onboarding/training, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, off-boarding, etc.), following established protocols and Core Values
- Manage scheduling of assigned programming, practicing frequent and proactive communication with respective supervisors
- Manage and develop Team Leads, ensuring their leadership meets Mesa Rim leadership expectations, including but not limited to, consistent demonstration of core values, personal and professional development, and supporting the team
- Approve direct reports’ timecards, adhering and holding team accountable to established timekeeping and payroll protocols
- Foster team camaraderie and cultivate culture of direct communication
- Serve as a liaison between Team Members and Management Team, communicating issues and concerns to management when appropriate
- Be familiar with all of the coaching tiers and departments
- Serve as Mesa Rim cultural example, consistently demonstrating and holding others accountable to Mesa Rim Core Values
- Oversee the day-of procedures of private group lessons and events; Serving as a lead and maintaining a presence during the event; acting as a liaison between the front desk, group guides, and the host.
- Take initiative in problem solving and utilize sound judgment; understand when to include management, and in the absence of management, make critical decisions for the well-being of the gym, its users, and staff in such areas as safety and customer service

Hours vary and minimums may be required according to the needs of business operations and school district trends at each location
Must-Haves:
- Must pass criminal and sex offender background check prior to start of work
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must contribute to Mesa Rim Climbing Center culture
- Must have the ability to seek and accept, as well as give, critical feedback in a professional manner
- Must demonstrate a positive attitude and be a team player
- Must have a drive to grow professionally
- Must have at least two years climbing experience and be proficient in indoor top rope and boulder climbing.
- Must demonstrate an inclusive instruction philosophy that fosters community, builds confidence, and nurtures youth development on and off the walls
- Must have at least one year of experience leading a youth program, team or classroom
- Must have excellent organizational skills
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must regularly demonstrate a high degree of initiative
- Must have excellent customer service skills
- Must be top rope belay certified at Mesa Rim
Nice-to-Haves:
- Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification preferred

Recreational Head Coach Pay Range: $25.50-$31.50/hour
